The Devil & Billy Markham, by Shel Silverstein, is an epic, six-part poem written in rhymed couplets. The story follows Billy Markham, a degenerate Nashville gambler and musician who wagers his soul when the Devil manifests at Billy's local watering hole. What follows is a series of twists and turns between heaven and hell, and various Nashville pit stops along the way.
This solo performance is directed by Paul Urcioli and features Dave Toomey on stage with cello accompaniment by Chris Tate. The result is a truly magical piece from an iconic poet with original music from the cast.
*While Silverstein is noted for his children's writing, this piece is geared for an adult audience.
