Mo and Bee
by Hannah Young
"Mo and Bee" focuses on Mo—a visual artist who thinks in monologue and is always rationalizing, yet is emotional, cautious, and terrified of rejection—and their best friend Phoebe—a visual artist who thinks in dialogue, lives in the moment, and wants to be loved by everybody. An exploration of the love and art in their queer friendship is broken up by fragments from the ancient poet Sappho.
Note from the writer: My goals for the world premiere of this play are to give life to these ideas (old and new) and hold a space for queer fems to see themselves represented on stage. Above all, this play is my love letter to all of the queer friendships I’ve had in my own life; for me, this play is a chance to show all of the love, care, and pain queer friendships can hold in all their messy glory. “Mo and Bee” isn’t a sanitized sapphic love story or a flat queer trauma narrative; it’s a play that holds everything—even the most contradictory thoughts and feelings. It holds the pride with the shame, the spoken with the unsaid, the hurt with the love. It holds all of the tenderness I have for my community, and it’s a show that can only be put on with love.
Writer and Producer: Hannah Young (any pronouns)
Hannah (any pronouns) is a writer, researcher, and recent graduate from the NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Starsong
by Andrew Strano & Erika Ji
STARSONG is based on the true story of a star that scientists found hurtling through the galaxy - the fastest moving star observed by humans. They traced it back to the centre of the Milky Way and discovered that a black hole had separated it from its twin.
Using the magic of light in the dark, and the joy of puppetry, STARSONG tells us the story of those twin stars, exploring how deeply we care for the people we love, how painful it can feel to lose them, and how, through togetherness, we might just find a way to continue our story.
