BEST OF FEST SCREENING: Vanishing A Love Story (4TH FLOOR)

NEW YORK RESIDENTS — Join us for a FREE PUBLIC SCREENING of the internationally award-winning Vanishing: A Love Story, Monday, November 17, 7:00pm at the Chain Theater 312 West 36th Street, 4th Floor. Please RSVP as seating is limited

This free screening is provided to New Yorkers to fulfill the terms and conditions as a recipient of the 2023 New York Foundation for the Arts Women’s Fund Grant and as the BEST OF FEST winner at the 2025 NYC Chain International Film Festival.

Sandra Luckow’s Vanishing offers an almost shockingly close-up view of a life well lived and arguably well ended. Focused raptly on the late author Cai Emmons, the film is documented from so deep within her home and intimate circle that at times it also seems to have been shot from inside her head. Emmons is the intellectual driver of Vanishing—but it’s Luckow’s principled humility before her subject, and before the inescapable realities of illness and death, that enable this film to begin in voicelessness and dissolution and end in eloquent affirmation.

--Stuart Klawans, National Magazine Award winner for Reviews and Criticism

RENTAL: Next of Kin (3RD FLOOR)

The Unscene Theatre Company, a women-led, non-profit theatre company, is excited to announce its latest production.

Next of Kin will be performed at the Chain Theater's Brick Studio August 18th, 19th, 20th, 22nd, and 23rd.

 About the Production

The Unscene Theatre is delighted to share information about its latest production, Next of Kin, which will run at the Chain Theater’s Brick Studio from August 18th through to the 23rd.

 About the Play:

A rain-soaked night in a New York hospital waiting room sets the stage for Next of Kin, an intimate and emotionally raw drama about an encounter between Joyce Peters, a reticent mother estranged from her daughter, and Hannah Markovitz, a professor who has come to care deeply for that same young woman.

As Keira—Joyce's daughter and Hannah's student—lies in critical condition after an accident, the women are forced into unexpected proximity and frank conversation.

Over the course of eighteen hours, what begins as awkward tension develops into piercing vulnerability, as they confront grief, estrangement, identity, and the quiet ache of maternal failure.

Next of Kin deftly explores the complexities of chosen versus biological family, asking whether reconciliation is ever too late—or sometimes better left unspoken.

This is a story about caregiving at the edges of love, and the difficult decisions that arise when past wounds come face to face with fragile hope.

About Our Cast:

Susan is happy to be a part of this production of Next of Kin and working with the Unscene Theater Company. Graduating with BA in acting at SF State University Susan has pursued a life of performing. She has created many roles in theater festivals, original plays and commercials in her many decades performing both in New York and San Francisco. She is also one half of the beloved kids comedy duo SAMMIE & TUDIE, with her husband. The duo performs all over the New York area performing their comedy magic & clowning show. When not performing, she enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and her husband Steve and their sweet little dog Sophie.

Joss Wilmouth (Hannah) is an NYC-based actor who is excited to be a part of this production. Some of her favorite roles include Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit, Lotty in Enchanted April, Ellen in Two Rooms, the Second Weird Sister in Macbeth and Kate in Bedroom Farce. Brooklyn College, MFA; Point Park College, BFA.
